FAQ

Why don’t you spend more time on worksheets or formal assessments?

Because kids don’t heal on paper—they heal through relationship, movement, play, and creativity. We use evidence-based tools, but our sessions are guided by the child’s nervous system, not a checklist. Emotional regulation and behavioral change are best nurtured through interactive, relational, and body-based experiences.

Why don’t you offer a quick fix?

Because your child isn’t a problem to solve—they’re a whole person learning to grow. Quick fixes may change surface behaviors temporarily, but they rarely lead to lasting emotional wellness. We focus on long-term transformation by building emotional skills, strengthening relationships, and creating safety from the inside out.

Why don’t you diagnose right away?

We believe in understanding the whole child—not just labeling behavior. While diagnoses can be helpful in some situations, our first priority is to build trust, connection, and context. We take time to observe, listen, and explore the root of behaviors so we can offer meaningful support, not just a label.

What if my child refuses to participate?

That’s okay. We know how to meet children where they are. Our playful, creative methods help children engage at their own pace—no pressure, just connection and curiosity.

Do you provide parent support even if my child isn’t in therapy with you?

Absolutely. We offer Parent Coaching Sessions for those looking to improve behavior, increase emotional connection, and create calm at home—even without child sessions.

How is play therapy different from traditional talk therapy?

Children don’t always have the words to describe what they’re feeling. Play is their language. Through therapeutic play and expressive arts, we access their inner world safely and creatively—helping them express, explore, and heal in developmentally appropriate ways.

How do I get started?

Start by visiting our Service Page to book a free 15-minute discovery call. From there, we’ll walk you through next steps for intake and setting goals that meet your child’s unique needs.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

We choose not to work directly with insurance so we can devote our time and energy where it matters most—providing high-quality care to our clients and continuing our education and advanced training.
Insurance often limits the type, frequency, and length of services, and requires a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement—even when a child simply needs support. By working outside of insurance networks, we’re free to provide personalized, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate care without compromising quality or confidentiality.
We’re happy to provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement, and we accept HSA and FSA cards.

Are you qualified to provide therapy?

Yes. Our staff includes a: licensed clinical psychologist, licensed professional counselor, social worker, parent coach, play therapist, certified special education teacher, and behavioral specialist with over 18 years of experience supporting children and families. Our practice is also board-certified in Colorado.

What ages do you work with?

We specialize in working with children ages 0–17, but also offer guidance and parent coaching for families with older children and teens, especially those with ADHD, ODD, anxiety, attachment concerns, and sensory processing issues.

What makes your approach different?

Our work is rooted in science and soul.
We blend:
Neuropsychology with brain-based strategies
Play and expressive arts therapy to access emotions through creativity
Montessori and relational parenting principles to build secure connections
Depth psychology to explore the inner world of the child
This integrative model creates long-lasting transformation—not just behavior compliance.

Do you only work with children?

Not at all. We also work with:
Parents, through behavioral coaching and education
Families, through relationship-based therapy
Schools, via consultations, workshops, and behavior plans

Why aren’t your services covered by school IEPs or 504 plans?

We operate outside the school system so we can serve your child without red tape or limitations. However, we often collaborate with schools by providing input, documentation, or consultation to support IEP or 504 goals when appropriate. Our goal is to create a bridge between therapeutic growth and academic success.

Why aren’t your sessions shorter or quicker?

Because real change takes time. We don’t rush healing. Children—especially those with big feelings or complex challenges—need space to feel safe, regulate, and express themselves. Our sessions are intentionally structured to allow for emotional regulation, therapeutic processing, and creative expression without pressure.

How do I know if this is right for my family?

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to support your child—this is for you. Our goal is not just to help your child behave better, but to help your entire family feel better.

Do I need a referral to work with you?

No

How long will therapy take?

Every child is different. Some families see progress within a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly reassess goals and keep you informed on your child’s growth and progress.

Do you offer online or virtual services?

Yes, we offer telehealth sessions and virtual parent coaching for clients who live outside of the Denver area or prefer remote access.

Can you help in high-conflict divorce or co-parenting situations?

Yes. We specialize in helping children and families navigating high-conflict separation, custody challenges, and court-ordered therapy. We provide therapeutic support as well as parent coaching and consultation to help children feel safe, supported, and heard.

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider, meaning we do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.
